  11. <p>   Climate and clothing: The climate in Iceland is similar to
  12. that in the US northwest. Woolen and other warm clothing is
  13. worn all year.
  14. </p>
  15. <p>   Health: Iceland has no endemic health problems. The major
  16. cities have adequate medical facilities.
  17. </p>
  18. <p>   Telecommunications: Telephone and telegraph service is state
  19. owned and is available to all parts of Iceland and principal
  20. points abroad. Reykjavik is five time zones ahead of eastern
  21. standard time.

  23. <p>   Transportation: Iceland has no railroads or streetcars.
  24. Local taxi and bus services are safe and efficient, but taxi
  25. fares are higher than on the US east coast. Most roads outside
  26. the immediate vicinity of Reykjavik are dirt or gravel and are
  27. only of poor to fair quality. Cars or four-wheel-drive vehicles
  28. may be rented.

  30. <p>   Tourist attractions: The main attraction of Iceland is its
  31. scenery, particularly during the late spring and summer. The
  32. rugged landscape includes geysers and hot springs in various
  33. parts of the country and numerous waterfalls streaming from the
  34. glaciers and volcanic fields. The major historic site, now a
  35. national park, is Thingvellir, where the world's first
  36. parliament convened.
